Why you might need Underground Service line Coverage

Today I want to talk to you about an endorsement that I believe is valuable and that you can have added, for an additional costs to your homeowner’s insurance policy. That endorsement is known as underground service line coverage.

So how does underground service line coverage work? And, you probably want to know what I mean by your “underground service line”? Some of you may already know. These are the lines that bring water, gas, cable, your heat, Internet, and things to and from your house. Anything can happen to that these lines. They can leak, break, tear or they can rupture. They can also collapse, and tree roots may cause them to break down and you will need to replace them.

Why you might need Underground Service line Coverage

I know some of you are saying to yourselves, “Well, I’ll just call the city and have them come out and fix that issue”. Unfortunately, most of the time, that is not the case. As a homeowner, and especially for new homeowners who don’t know this, you are responsible for repairing service lines from your dwelling to your property line.

Replacing and repairing one of these can lead to excavating costs or you can be left with; a ditch in your front yard, exposed pipes that need to be covered up, and all sorts of things like that can cost you thousands of dollars. However underground service line coverage typically costs just $50 to $120 a year and can save you a lot of headaches and a lot of money.

Not only does this type of endorsement to your policy pay, a lot of times for excavation, the piping, wiring, repairs, and replacements, sometimes they even will pay for a hotel room or additional living expenses while your family is unable to occupy your home.

Some insurance companies will even pay for you to upgrade to a more energy efficient system when replacing your equipment. These are some of the many reasons why I believe this is a good coverage and one you may need to have.

You’re going to want to talk to your insurance agent or your insurance company about all the specific coverages included on the policy you purchase through them, as most companies’ insurance coverages differ somewhat.

I hope this helps someone!
